halloween was, in a word, awesome. so trite, but so true.
where to begin: well, for starters, we decided to skip The Smile and head straight to Brooklyn for Vice’s 15th Anniversary Party which was 1994-themed. i decided to dress up as Sonic the Hedgehog which was actually created in 1991 (shh) but did not become beloved until 1994 (according to Entertainment Weekly). Dave was Ira Glass perfection - complete with spectacles, a Thom Browne suit, headphones, and a microphone that he handcrafted. Johnny was the quintessential 80s wrestler - sporting white thigh high lace up wrestling boots (amazing), a long black wig, black spandex, a beater, and flourescent face paint. oh, and he went commando…
saturday night was a blitz of festivities that involved last-minute costume assembling, wristband procurement, an unfinished 3-floor warehouse space, free flowing tequila, 90s throwback jams (wow i cant believe i just said that), doing the pee dance while waiting for 1 of 8 porta-potties supplied for approx 1,500 people, BAD BRAINS, THE JESUS LIZARD, a skate ramp, spicy steak tacos, and the inevitable morning after piecing-together of events that may or may not have happened between 2am and whatever time Dave and i stumbled into Johnny’s apartment via text message log, call history, and twitter.
thank you, Vice, for showing us all that rave still lives on.
and thank you, Daylight Savings, for giving us an extra hour to recover.
